Ministry Teams

Our Ministry Teams are groups of men and women who are members at EPC and have volunteered the use of their time and spiritual gifts to one of the vital ministries of our local church. By volunteering in this way they are actually obeying the word of God.

Under the inspiration of God’s Holy Spirit, the Apostle Paul exhorts us, “Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them…” (Romans 12:6, ESV). The Apostle Peter said virtually the same thing when he wrote, “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace,” (1 Peter 4:10, ESV).

How God Puts His Church Together

Every Christian has been given a spiritual gift. By definition, these gifts are not given for our own benefit, but for the benefit of the entire body of believers. They cannot be hoarded. If they’re not used to serve Christ’s church, they become useless.

As Paul wrote, “To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good,” (1 Corinthians 12:7, ESV). A spiritual gift that is used only to benefit the person who has it is a contradiction in terms. Spiritual gifts are divine enablements designed to help others in their Christian lives.

One reason for Christians to get involved with other believers is to obediently and gratefully share the benefits of the gifts they’ve received. Another is to receive help from other believers’ gifts. God has never given a spiritual gift that can make someone spiritually independent and in need of no one else’s gifts. Quite the contrary, in fact. As Paul explained,

For the body does not consist of one member but of many. If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell? But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose. If all were a single member, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, yet one body.

The eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you,” nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, and on those parts of the body that we think less honorable we bestow the greater honor, and our unpresentable parts are treated with greater modesty, which our more presentable parts do not require. But God has so composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it, that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together.

Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.

[1 Corinthians 12:14-27, ESV]

Because God has put his people together in a way that can be compared to how he put together the human body, our spiritual gifts not only show what we can do but what we can’t, and how much we need each other.

How EPC’s Ministry Teams are organized

Each Ministry Team includes an officer of the church (an elder or deacon), works under the authority and guidance of the elders, and meets as frequently as its members see fit. Each team articulates its own vision and mission, sets its own objectives, and determines its own strategies and action plans.

EPC members may serve on more than one Ministry Team. We currently have nine teams covering Adult Discipleship, Facilities, Fellowship, Finance, Foreign Missions, Mercy Ministries, Outreach, Youth and Children, and Worship.
